With decision of the European commission of June the 20th, 2003 (2003/460/EC) all members of the EU are asked to ensure that there is no trading within the EU with Chili or products of Chili which contain Sudan I.
Import of these products only is allowed with a certificate of analysis which shows the absence of Sudan I. Beside Sudan I PhytoLab is able to analyse further more inadmissible pigments like Sudan II, II. IV, Sudan Orange G and Sudan Red 7B. For the absence of these pigments Phytolab can make out a certificate of analysis. The method is an HPLC-method with optional LC-MS-conformation. It is also used by national offices for food control. The analysis is based on a method released by the European commission (Health & consumer protection directorate).
