Cosmetic product

Legal background:

According to Article 3 of Regulation (EC) No. 1223/2009 (Cosmetic Products Regulation), the designated responsible person (manufacturer, importer, etc.) shall ensure the safety of a cosmetic product. The information to be assessed within the framework of a cosmetic product safety report (CPSR) also includes the stability of the cosmetic product under reasonably foreseeable storage conditions.

How long is the durability period of a cosmetic product?

The characteristics of a cosmetic product are defined by its composition. Its stability depends on product-specific physical and chemical parameters, as well as interactions with its environment (including temperature and humidity). The packaging material also plays an important role. Many complex reactions and processes take place over time, which may cause deviations in the functional and/or aesthetic characteristics of a product. The intended uses, compositions and administration forms of cosmetic products are extremely diverse, which means that there are no generally applicable stability testing methods. The ISO/TR 18811:2018 guidelines on the stability testing of cosmetic products can be used as an orientation aid. We would be happy to help you select the most suitable tests for your product. Apart from physical test procedures, we also offer numerous analytical methods for checking such functional ingredients as preservatives or antioxidants and value-adding components, such as vitamins, essential oils or plant extracts and constituents.

Foreseeable storage conditions

The purpose of stability testing is to determine the durability period of a product under expectable use and storage conditions. Our controlled climatic conditions reflect the temperatures and humidities that prevail during transportation, storage and use. We are able to conduct both accelerated studies (stress tests) and long-term studies. Stress tests are carried out over shorter times
under accelerated conditions. They are particularly useful during the development phase and for the simulation of transportation processes. Long-term studies provide information on the shelf life of the product for the consumer. PhytoLab offers you a wide range of storage conditions:
